QuickTalk Features

QuickTalk is the premier Push-To-Talk VoWLAN software for enterprise-class rugged devices. It runs on any handheld device running Windows Mobile 5.0 or later, many devices running Windows CE 5.0 or later, and Windows-based PCs. Here are just some of QuickTalk's many features.

Seamless integration – When you hear someone talking through your mobile device, simply press the push-to-talk hardware button from any application to talk back. And to initiate a new conversation just press the user-defined hot key to quickly pop up the QuickTalk window. It doesn’t get any easier (or quicker)!

Intuitive, efficient user interfaceQuickTalk uses a familiar IM-like interface consisting of several tabs: My Contacts (people you talk to frequently), My Site (everyone you're allowed to see within your site), and optionally Other Sites (an easy way to find people in external sites throughout your company). Switching between these tabs on your mobile device can be done quickly and easily with the stylus, the left/right arrow keys, or the tab key.

Push-to-talk hardware buttonsQuickTalk supports dedicated push-to-talk hardware buttons out of the box on the Symbol MC9090-G, MC9090-K, MC9090-S, MC70, MC75, and MC35. For all other devices the push-to-talk hardware button can easily be configured through a simple setting in a configuration file. Any key on the keypad can be selected as the PTT button. And thanks to QuickTalk's patented "Double-click to disconnect" feature, only one key is necessary for both connecting and disconnecting.

Push-to-talk soft buttons – QuickTalk provides large, practical on-screen “soft” buttons. Just press and hold the Talk button with your thumb to talk. This on-screen button can be positioned in the lower-left or lower-right corner of the display for easy right-handed or left-handed use. And to save precious screen real estate, the soft buttons can optionally be hidden on devices where hardware buttons have been configured.

No-touch configuration – Most QuickTalk settings can be centrally configured in a single configuration file, which can then be deployed to each device manually or through mobile management software such as Motorola's MSP (Mobility Services Platform), Odyssey's Athena, etc.

Exceptional voice quality – If you’ve already evaluated other PTT over WiFi "solutions" for your industrial environment, we wouldn't be a bit surprised if you're skeptical of a possible VoIP system that will actually work well in your environment. But we're confident that QuickTalk's crystal clear voice quality will have you singing a new tune.

Multi-site capability  QuickTalk Server allows each site to optionally declare its trust for other sites within the enterprise. Privileged users in trusted sites have the ability to initiate conversations with privileged users in sites who have declared their trust. For example, a stockroom manager in one site could immediately ask an urgent question of a stockroom manager in another site, regardless of whether it's just across town, across the country, or around the world!

Flexible permission setup – Permissions can be configured for multiple groups of users so that, for example, certain employees cannot go into “Do Not Disturb” mode, nor can they initiate conversations with anyone except their supervisors.

Secure authenticationQuickTalk’s standard configuration provides 256-bit encryption of all user names and passwords transmitted over the network.

Robust presence capability – The ubiquitous “Available” and “Away” presence indicators are supported in addition to some QuickTalk extras like “On Break”, “Out to Lunch”, and “Do Not Disturb”.

Excellent keypad support – In some industrial environments the use of a stylus is simply not practical so QuickTalk was designed for efficient, intuitive navigation with both the stylus and the keypad.
